Princess Wallada’s ivory box

In 2010, the Conjunto Arqueológico Madinat al-Zahra in Cordoba, commissioned Factum Arte to create a facsimile of a 10th-century ivory box originally made for Princess Wallada bint al-Mustakfi. A loan agreement between the Conjunto Arqueológico and the Instituto Valencia de Don Juan in Madrid requested for a facsimile to be displayed at the Instituto, while the original would be exhibited in Cordoba.

The box was recorded in 3D using a Nub3D Triple scanner at the Instituto Valencia de Don Juan. The digital data was routed in resin and hand-painted to simulate aged ivory. The hinges and latch were also made in resin, using bronze powder and gold leaf to mimic the original gilded bronze.
