Facsimile of a sacred cave at the pre-Hispanic UNESCO World Heritage site of Risco Caído

Between early 2019 and January 2020, Factum Arte collaborated with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria on a groundbreaking project to create an exact 1:1 facsimile of Cave No. 6 at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Risco Caído. The replica, on permanent display at the Risco Caído Interpretation Centre in Artenara since 2020, aims to increase public accessibility while preserving the fragile original.

The original cave was recorded in high resolution in spring 2019 using a combination of LiDAR, photogrammetry, and panoramic photography to capture the details of the cave — believed to function as a prehistoric solar calendar.

The replica was made at Factum Arte’s workshops in Madrid using CNC milling to create several sections of the cave. Each section was hand-painted using high-resolution colour data as reference, faithfully recreating the cave’s unique architecture and carvings in the highest detail.
