The Metrological Relief at the Ashmolean Museum

In September 2025, Factum Foundation London supported the digitisation of the Metrological Relief at the Ashmolean Museum using photogrammetry, in collaboration with Dr Andrew Shapland.

The 3D scanning was carried out by Factum’s Gabriel Coleman and ARCHiOx’s Dylan Schirmacher. The marble relief (460-450 BC) is thought to come from a weights and measurements office of an Ancient Greek market, as it shows several standard Greek measurements such as fingers, a hand, arm, and foot. The slab, although broken, would measure an orguia (the ancient fathom, 1.85m) if the missing section was reconstructed.
